What do we mean by warehouse safety and why does it impact performance?<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A safe warehouse reduces downtime, damage to goods and accidents, speeds up order flow and improves the team’s experience. When safety is integrated into daily processes and habits, it translates into lower costs, greater equipment availability and higher service quality.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Basic framework and responsibilities<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

PRSES (Person Responsible for Shelving Safety):<\/strong> a figure recommended by the UNE-EN 15635<\/a>\u00a0 standard to coordinate inspections, record incidents and activate corrective actions in storage systems.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Technical guidelines:<\/strong> NTP 852 del INSST<\/a>\u00a0summarises typical risks associated with metal shelving (design, assembly, use and maintenance) and preventive measures.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

General obligations:RD 1215\/1997<\/a>\u00a0 (work equipment) and \u00a0RD 486\/1997<\/a>\u00a0 (workplaces) establish minimum health and safety requirements applicable to warehouse operations.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

  4. Signage and traffic segregation.<\/strong> Protected pedestrian routes, speed limits, and mirrors at crossings and blind spots.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  5. Separation of tasks.<\/strong> Replenishment on one side and picking on the other to minimise interference.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  6. Training and qualification.<\/strong> Initial induction and refresher courses: safe use of shelving and handling equipment, evacuation and emergencies.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  7. Load control on the rack.<\/strong> No excessive overhangs, with deflection control and uniform loads.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  8. Prevention of falling objects.<\/strong> Nets, trays or rear bumpers when there are pedestrian walkways or evacuation routes.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  9. Cleanliness and tidiness as standard.<\/strong> Daily checklists; correction of sources of dirt and spills.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  10. Emergency and fire safety plan.<\/strong> Clear evacuation routes, properly maintained fire extinguishing equipment, and regular drills based on your risk level.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  11. Audit and continuous improvement.<\/strong> Indicators (collisions with shelving, non-conformities, near misses) and action plan with responsible parties and dates.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

    Errores comunes que elevan el riesgo<\/h2>\r\n

    Hay pr\u00e1cticas que incrementan el riesgo de forma notable. Enderezar montantes o largueros da\u00f1ados en lugar de sustituirlos compromete la integridad de la estanter\u00eda. Mezclar SKU en ubicaciones cr\u00edticas conduce a p\u00e9rdida de control de la carga y a errores de manipulaci\u00f3n. No registrar inspecciones ni cerrar acciones correctivas impide aprender de los incidentes y perpet\u00faa los fallos.
